HALTON HAPPENINGS November 2008

A New Vision of Aging in Canada

YOU WILL CREATE THE FUTURE FOR YOUR CHAPTER

On the heels of the new look and largest CARP Conference and Expo in Toronto, the Halton Chapter needs your involvement and feedback to develop the “new look” of the Chapter for the future.

We look forward to a large contingent of 100 energized Chapter Members and guests, to participate in an inter-active and fun workshop on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 7:00 pm in the Burlington Seniors’ Centre.

After 15 years of growth and wonderful activities of the Halton Chapter, we are at a crucial period to look at what members feel are the challenges, benefits and opportunities for your Chapter to grow in 2009 and beyond. This includes the leadership of the Chapter, further volunteer opportunities and community outreach partnerships.

CARP National Office is building their Membership Benefits portfolio, Advocacy Issues are gaining greater support, and our role at the Community level, plays a critical role to the overall “grass roots” effectiveness of the organization.

Issues for you to consider for discussion Nov. 26th, include:

* New Chapter Meeting Dates and Locations across Halton

* How can we keep you as a CARP Member? and why?

* Will you consider volunteering 2 hours a month to help?

* How should the funds for the Chapter be raised and spent?

* What will make the Chapter more enjoyable experience?

* What should the Chapter Management Team do for you?

To start the process, please complete the questions and come to the Chapter Workshop on Nov. 26th with your views. There will be special incentives for those who provide the best input and support. Team work will be recognized.

Dr. Gordon Atherley to represent CARP on Long-Term Care Committee

While attending the recent CARP National Conference, Greg Metrakos (our PR+Member Services rep) offered to assist the CARP Advocacy Team with a Halton Chapter presence on the Ontario Seniors’ Advisory Committee on Long-Term Care Issues. We are delighted to announce that our own Dr.Gordon Atherley was recently appointed to the Seniors’ Advisory Committee to support CARP matters province-wide.

Dr. Atherley has extensive health care experience. From a practicing physician, to an advocate to improve heath care to all age categories, and as a new member of the Halton Chapter Management team advising members on various health care matters.

We look forward to hearing from Gordon on the progress of the Long-Term Care Issues and how we can support him in his new role. If you wish to know more, see Ontario Seniors Secretariat,
