ROSS MAYOT UNVEILS THE FUTURE OF CARP
“A New Vision of Aging in Canada” is the basis for a renewed role for CARP across Canada.
A large contingent of 100 energized Chapter Members and guests, including Burlington MP, Mike Wallace and MPP Joyce Savoline enjoyed a spirited presentation by Ross Mayot, CARP’s National V.P. Community Development on September 24, 2008.
CARP has been in existence for 24 years and is revitalized under the leadership of Mozes Znaimer. “A New Vision of Aging for Canada” includes the ABC’s of CARP, Advocacy, Benefits, and Community. He also feels CARP should have a million members and be the leading voice for the interests for Canadians 45+ or “Zoomers”, as he likes to call us. The term “Zoomers” does not imply that CARP has lost interest in those members who are over 65. It is just marketing pizzazz to revitalize the image and purpose of CARP and attract many more members in the 45 to 65 age bracket.
Chapters help CARP promote a healthy image of aging by demonstrating community-based vitality and leadership by:
creating a welcoming environment for current and potential members,
developing a plan for activities, topics, speakers with goals and benchmarks for assessing success. . identifying service opportunities and initiatives that are of value in the community . providing opportunities for members’ skills and talents, with focus on teamwork, and doing good.
CARP is growing, and by this time next year there will be 30 chapters. We are in for an exciting year. It will be filled with growth and a spirit of accomplishment and I hope all of you will continue to part of it.

Zoomers control the ballot box. In the 2004 election, Zoomers cast approximately 8.9 million votes. All other age groups combined cast approximately 5.3 million votes. So Zoomers represented OVER 62% of all votes
CARP Announces Key Advocacy Issues for Politicians
Susan Eng, announces the following issues at CARPS’ national press conference:
PRIORITY #1 – HEALTH CARE
“Deal with it!” said Eng, “Move on the Accord on Health Care Renewal by demanding wait-time guarantees from the provinces in exchange for federal health dollars, setting national standards and introducing a national pharmacare program.”
PRIORITY #2 – AGING AT HOME
“Recognize it! ” said Eng, “The formal health care system needs to facilitate the role of the five million Canadians who care for loved-ones at home. They need financial support through a refundable tax credit or allowance, better Employment Insurance coverage and improved pension plan provisions.”
PRIORITY #3 – MANDATORY RETIREMENT
“Eliminate it!” said Eng, “In uncertain times, Canada needs the skills and experience of every worker who can contribute to our social and economic well-being. Frankly, telling someone that they must stop working at age 65 is the definition of age discrimination.”
PRIORITY #4 – RETIREMENT SECURITY
