Recently our national office opened a dialog with members asking for their experience with the health care system. They asked for experiences with wait times, etc. The chapter is also interested in hearing from members at a local level. What are your experiences? Have you experienced unacceptable wait times for surgery? Have you been victim of medical mistakes? Do you feel intimidated to tell of poor service or mistakes because you will be “derostered” and have no doctor? Have you been interviewed by a potential family doctor and refused?

We welcome your input and will offer whatever advice we can on options.

• Beware GM – My view, and welcome to it.

A perspective from my experience. While we all contributed through our taxes to the survival of GM, they aren’t inclined to reciprocate our kindness – or even learn from their mistakes.

This July I when my truck lease expired and GM no long offered leases, I decided to purchase a new truck and support the corporation. I purchased a $50,000 Sierra extended cab – the most expensive vehicle I ever bought. My wife and I decided to dress it up with some window covers from a company in Orillia. We drove down and left mid afternoon to return to North Bay but the truck died in the middle of four lanes of traffic surrounded by transports! Without power and no power steering it was a challenge getting to the shoulder but we managed. When the big beauty (with less than 1000km’s on it) was towed to Jim Wilson dealership in Orillia I was quite disgusted. However, the service staff apologized and assured us it would be fixed and we would be on our way next day. “Just check in to the hotel, go for dinner, and keep all your receipts. GM will reimburse you no question” we were told.
