DISAPPROVAL OF PROROGATION CAUSES SUPPORT FOR GOVERNMENT TO PLUMMET AMONG BELLWETHER CARP MEMBERS

Key Findings

CARP ActionOnline readers overwhelmingly disapprove of the current proroguing of Parliament, they think that this prorogation occurred because the government wanted to avoid an Afghan detainee enquiry and they will vote for a Liberal government if an election were held tomorrow, as support for the Conservatives has plummeted since December.

The proportion of readers calling for an election has doubled since September, 2009, and the majority say they are now less likely to vote for the government.

Attitudes to prorogation and the Afghan detainee enquiry are entirely driven by partisan preferences. While three quarters of Conservative party supporters (65%) approve of the current prorogation, virtually all supporters of the other federalist parties (97% or more) disapprove of the Prime Minister’s move.
