Ajax-Pickering CARP Chapter Blasts Off

A full house of 300 CARP members and local Zoomers met for the Ajax-Pickering Chapter launch in Durham Region, Ontario – October 4th, with CARP President, Moses Znaimer as the featured presenter.

Pickering Mayor, David Ryan welcomed the new CARP Chapter and applauded the work of CARP over the past 27 years.  The Mayor recounted some of the history of Pickering, which is celebrating its Bicentenary this year, and his pride in the multicultural diversity of Pickering today.  Mayor Ryan praised Moses Znaimer for his ground breaking role in broadcasting and putting multicultural faces and names on mainstream television, so that the people in the Greater Toronto Area, could see themselves reflected on TV – for the first time – on Citytv.  The Mayor also complimented Moses on bringing a new vitality to CARP with the explosive growth of Chapters and the new Zoomer Magazine.

Moses was joined on stage by CARP vice presidents Susan Eng, Ross Mayot and Eric Vengroff, who explained in detail, some of the current advocacy, community development and discounts & benefits that CARP is focused on this year.

Ajax-Pickering Chapter Chair, Steve Campbell was very pleased with the turn out for the evening, and looks forward to getting some important advocacy work accomplished, particularly in the local health care area and generating new local benefits and discounts for CARP members in Durham Region.

Moses Znaimer congratulated the entire group of volunteer board and committee members for their hard work in putting the event together.

A number of sponsors put on an informational fair in the salon of the Pickering Recreation Complex, and were able to expose their businesses to the hundreds of Zoomer-consumers in attendance.   Chapter Vice-Chair, Randy Filinski, said that they had to turn away a number of interested sponsors due to a lack of space, and is planning a bigger CARP/Zoomer the near future.
