Media Release For October 1st – Health And Wellness: Enhancing Your Life

Scarborough CARP Chapter 29 will be celebrating National Seniors Day with a “Health and Wellness: Enhancing Your Life” Event on Tuesday, October 1st from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The Event will be held at the Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive in Scarborough (near the NW corner of McCowan and Ellesmere Roads), adjacent to the Scarborough Town Centre. There will be light refreshments, a 50-50 draw, five major activity areas plus two keynote speakers. Admission is free. The Civic Centre can be accessed by public transit via the Scarborough Centre RT station, and there is ample parking in and around the Civic Centre. All are welcome to attend this important and informative afternoon!

Speakers for the Event will be Dr. Klaus Schwanbeck, founder of Nordixx Pole Walking Canada, who will talk on “Lifestyle Guidelines for Vital Aging”, and Ms. Marcia Miller-Read, Diabetes Education Specialist from TSH who will speak on “Diabetes and You”. Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly will also be present at the Event to address the attendees.

There will be time during the Event to meet, view demonstrations and talk with people at twenty tables in five activity centres. Participants performing demos and/or giving information at these centres include the YMCA, Nordixx Poles, the CNIB, Listen UP! Canada, Music Therapy with Room 217, and many other organizations. As well, during this time the Woburn Collegiate Institute Senior Jazz Band will be performing in the Atrium for the attendees.

The Activity Centres comprise the following areas:
a) Participation/Recreation/Hobbies
b) Music and Music Therapy
c) Nutrition and Healthy Eating
d) Health Care Products and Services
e) Volunteer Groups
