New resources on finances and caregivers were made available to Canadians this week.

Living in Retirement, Financial Guide

The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) developed a Living in Retirement comprehensive free guide that address various financial matters with tips and information. The guide addresses maters such as:

  • budgeting in retirement
  • retirement income sources
  • public pension benefits, tax credits, and other benefits
  • prevention of financial abuse and fraud
  • working in retirement
  • dealing with major life changes associating with caregiving and loss of independence.

Information for Caregiver Porter

The Government of Canada also launched a new caregiver portal on their seniors.gc.ca website. The new Information for Caregiver portal provides federal, provincial, and some municipal resources for caregivers on financial information, care options, powers of attorney, health, mental health, and dementia. In the federal government’s new release about this new portal, Susan Eng was quoted welcoming such initiatives:

“CARP members will welcome the new Information for Caregivers portal on seniors.gc.ca. It will help families navigate the complex array of government programs and services at all levels. It is comprehensive and user-friendly, which will come as a great relief to people who are often running from pillar to post to get the help they need for themselves or their loved ones,” said Susan Eng, Vice President, Advocacy, CARP.
