Boomers Retire? That’s just not happening…

Bring on the excitement and the FUN!

There are many definitions of retirement out there, typically we think of retirement as the stopping of work, and the beginning of leisure time. Images crop up of elderly people walking the beach, playing golf, travelling and basically have a grand time. That may be the case for some, however for the boomer generation retirement will take on a whole new meaning as we age and try to figure out  whats next for the next chapter in our lives.

Dictionary definition of retirement:

To go back or return; to draw back or away; to keep aloof; to withdraw or retreat, as from observation; to go into privacy; as, to retire to his home; to retire from the world, or from notice.

Are you kidding me? Nothing is   farther from the truth when we look at the Boomer Generation. At the May 30, 2013 launch of C.A.R.P. (Canadian Association for Retired Persons) Chapter 56 in Oshawa Ontario, the guest speaker David Cravit (Vice President of Zoomer Media) talked about The New Old, and how the Boomer generation is looking for very untraditional activities in retirement.

Cravit said that Boomers are looking for excitement and in some cases danger, while they celebrate having the freedom to do the things on their Bucket List. Cravit said that the new board, led by Irene Anderson, Chair was vibrant and young.

The May 30th event was a great success, with over 200 attendees. All of the C.A.R.P. Chapter 56 volunteers did a bang up job organizing the event. The atmosphere was lively and fun, especially with the Live music from the Trio Afterglow.

C.A.R.P. Chapter 56, will continue to be a vibrant and active Chapter, welcoming members new and old from the community to join us in celebrating our next chapters. We invite you to take a look at our pictures from the event. Please like our page on Facebook, and of course come to our events You Will Be Amazed.
