St. John's-Avalon Chapter Board 2014

CARP St. Johns-Avalon Chapter

2014 Board of Directors

The Annual General Meeting of the St. Johns-Avalon Chapter was held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Tiffany Village Personal Care Home in St. Johns. The guest speaker was Alison Butler, the Coordinator of Education and Awareness, Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, NL. Alison spoke about the work of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association with a focus on the difference between hearing loss and deafness. She offered practical information for the growing number of persons with hearing loss.

The election of the 2014 Board of Directors took place at this meeting resulting in the following members elected:

Chair: Edgar Williams; Vice-Chair: Lorraine Best; Treasurer: Gerry Bowers; Secretary: Sharron Callahan; Directors:  Maurice Brewster, Don Dooley, Cyril Ludlow, Kevin Smith, Doug Tilley, and Patricia Whelan.

Roy Church, the longest serving member of the Chapter Board, was congratulated for his over 20 years of service. Roy was a charter member who served continuously until this year.

One objective of the Chapter Board is to encourage existing members to recruit friends and acquaintances to join CARP. It is the only seniors organization in Canada that speaks for seniors at the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government in a non-partisan manner. CARP has received much attention for its advocacy work and this attention will be enhanced in the future with an increased membership base.

If you have any suggestions for Board consideration, please, let me know. We are always ready to listen.
