Seniors play a vital role in our nation and deserve to know who will best represent their interests in the Oct. 19 federal election.

That’s the position of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP), which is hosting a special all-candidates meeting at the Shoal Centre in Sidney from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 29.

“We’ve been advocating and working for seniors for years,” said Larry Cross, the former mayor of Sidney who now works as advocate for CARP. “We feel it’s important that seniors have a clear understanding of each party’s policies (that affect their demographic).”

Earlier this week, the only candidate who had yet to be confirmed was Conservative Robert Boyd.

Green Party leader and incumbent MP Elizabeth May will be there, as will Liberal candidate Tim Kane and the NDP’s Alicia Cormier.

“We’re focusing on seniors and senior issues,” Cross said, noting matters such as care-giver support and pension reform.
