New online portal helps ON seniors get help during COVID-19

COVID-19/coronavirus update: April 28, 2020

The Ontario Caregiver Organization has created CaregivingCommunities; a new online portal that provides an easy way for seniors and organizations in Ontario to find the support they need.

Across the province, people and organizations are rallying to support those who need help in their community. Whether it’s a faith-based organization offering to pick up medication for a senior or a service club collecting personal protective equipment from local businesses, the challenge is knowing who needs the help and what organization can provide it. This information is now available through the CaregivingCommunities portal.

Here’s how it works:

Seniors

Seniors who need help can search for the local organizations that are assisting with:

  • Grocery shopping and delivery
  • Medication pick-up
  • Social support – friendly phone calls
  • Communication devices i.e. tablet
  • Prepared meals
  • Mental health support
  • Spiritual support
  • Games, books and crosswords

Charities and other community-based organizations

Charities, non-profits, service clubs and faith-based organizations that are offering to support people in their community can register on the site and indicate what support they can provide to their community. This can include collecting personal protective equipment from local businesses, grocery pick up and delivery, social support i.e. friendly phone call, spiritual support etc. If your organization falls into one of these categories and you want to help, please register on the portal.

Long-term care homes, retirement homes and other assisted living organizations

These residential settings in your community can search for that organizations that are collecting or providing:

  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hand sanitizer, wipes, soap
  • Communication devices i.e. tablet
  • Social support – friendly phone calls
  • Spiritual support
  • Prepared meals
  • Mental health support
  • Games, books, crosswords
