CARP supports Ontario’s commitment to an independent commission into long-term care

CARP congratulates Ontario for being the first province to announce an investigation into long-term care, and looks forward to working with government on the commission as it rolls out.

“While a commission is an important part of the process, and will help to answer some unknowns, it does not preclude the government from acting on that which we do know in the meantime,” explains Marissa Lennox, CARP’s Chief Policy Officer. “We continue to urge the government to enact changes now to safeguard our vulnerable elders.”

After decades of systemic issues, it’s time to finally overhaul long-term care.  CARP is calling for urgent action, with a focus on proper funding, consistent standards across the country, including staffing levels, outbreak protocols, and quality of care.
