CARP Members to Politicians: HST will cost you my vote!

“I am on a disabilty and the HST is only going to take more money out of the $1300.00 I live on a month. We have the lowest minimum wage across Canada and our elected members are only interested in helping big business. What happens to the single moms pensioners and people like me with a terminal disease?!”

“As a senior in your riding, I am writing to express my concern over the proposal to harmonize the PST and GST. Many items, currently not subject to PST would then be subject to the new HST – and many of these are items and services that are purchased by seniors. The proposal would adversely affect many of your own constituents who are already trying to survive on pensions or investments that have been so negatively impacted by the downturn in the economy and stock market. While giving businesses a break, common sense tells us that the revenue will have to come from somewhere – our pockets. We seniors may be getting older – but we have amazing memories when it comes to politicians who impact negatively on our pocketbooks! Please reconsider this ill-advised idea, and encourage your colleagues to do the same.”

“If the HST must be implemented for BC to remain competitive it is imperative to give seniors suitable tax breaks to compensate with some tax relief.”

“The new HST will make a bad situation worse insofar as my outrageous maintenance fees are concerned.”

“I want to vote liberal, but this tax is making it very difficult for me to do.”
