Adult Board Games Meetup @ the library

This is a meetup for people who enjoy playing board games and tabletop games! The group is informal and inclusive and we play games that are easy to learn and fun to play. Best of all, it’s FREE. Drop in, socialize and choose from a variety of games that we’ll continue to expand.

In 2016 the meetups will happen on two Thursdays per month:

Digital Discovery with the Teen Tech Team

Come join library staff and teen volunteers to help you explore popular tech trends in a hands-on collaborative atmosphere. Learn about connecting with friends and family on Facebook, sharing and collecting ideas on Pinterest, exploring the library’s amazing digital collections of magazines, music, books and movies and much much more.

In Conversation with – Margaret Atwood

The In Conversation With series continues with a presentation by Margaret Atwood. In Conversation With is a partnership of Oakville Public Library, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and A Different Drummer Books. Margaret Atwood will launch her newest novel, Hag-Seed, a retelling of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Writing and Publishing in the Digital Age

The world of writing and publishing has changed dramatically in the last decade. Find out how the changes affect writers, readers and publishers. Cynthia Good has spent many years in publishing at a senior level. She is currently the Director of Student and Industry Initiatives at Humber College’s Creative Book Publishing Program. She will share her knowledge and insights about the future of publishing.

The Science of Beauty

How is a consumer able to select safe and effective beauty products? Chemist and cosmetic science writer Louise Hidinger will discuss the science of beauty, how to read a skincare product list and how to choose products for a specific skin condition.

Happy Birthday Canada!

July 1 is Canada’s Birthday. What better way to celebrate than with cake and a movie? Drop by for a piece of birthday cake (while supplies last) and watch In Canada, a brief film produced by The Canadian Museum of Immigration. It features the personal stories of immigrants to Canada from all over the world, and makes you proud to live in this country. The film will be shown continuously.
